Tapered B?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm wondering if anyone knows which string brands make a 5 string set with a tapered B only?

I use gauge 45-65-85-105-130 and don't want the other strings tapered, only the B.

Any ideas?

Thanks

The "create your own" looks great, but none of them seem to have tapered B

I use them on my Pedulla Thunderbass 6 string as my preferred string. As a point of reference, I previosuly used DR High Beams (also great strings) and went to the Foderas
and am very happy. I should note that I use their Diamond Heavy stainless set with the .135 B and I prefer the non tapered B, but the strings are great. Sound wise I am into a very growly, "Death Metal" tone.. however they work great for whatever I do so long as I dial in my EQ accordingly. I have found they are consistent and long lasting.

They're pretty decently priced on juststrings.com as well. I usually order my strings from the states as they prices are less extreme

Ken Smith and Fodera both offer tapered B's, 130 is the smallest they go I believe. I'd suggest basstringsonline due to it being a TB member's website, good pricing(TB Discount) and huge selection. Impeccable customer service as well.

I find that the Labella Hard Rockin Steels work best for me. Very long life and tons of growl. They come with a taper wound B. Pretty inexpensive too, I get mine from samash.com. Give those a try.

Look again, D'Addario, GHS, and Ken Smith all have tapered B strings available.

You get the discount at Jason's site by signing up as a user and telling him you're a TB member.
If he doesn't have what you want in the 'build your own' sets, he offers tons of packaged sets with tapered B's. Some may have tapered E's too, so be sure to look.

I agree with Miketallica 315 and the Labella's Hard Rockin Steel. I have them on my Warwick Streamer (which needs a tapered B string) and they sound great, lots of bite and the best to accompany the growl that Warwicks have. Depends on the sound you're after though. I usually like Nickel strings, so these are the only steels that i have tried and really liked.

Try the Labellas. The .128 tapered B string is the best B string I've ever played. In fact, I'd go so far to say that the Hard Rockin' steels are the best strings I've ever used. They last a long time, age incredibly well for.rounds, and have great growl.

Do you want Nickel Plated Steel or Stainless Steel?

The Ken Smith build your own set option will give you the option to pick Standard strings or Taper Strings for what is all available. The Build your own Set options are basically all the singles available put into one place so you do not need to click 20 different pages...

Also, since you only want a Tapered B, you are better off buying a standard 4 string set and adding low B's to that.... (cheaper!)... If orders are placed for say .045 .065 .085 .105 .125T in a Build your own Set option, I credit the difference saved and ship the .045-.105 set and a low B...

Same thing works if you want .030 .045 .065 .085 .105 for example...

OP: It will be better for you to get full 4 string sets and add low B's... There are Tapered Low B's available from GHS, Ken Smith, D'Addario, Fodera, and DR.

If there is a single string you are interested in and do not see on the website (yet), let me know and I can get you taken care of.

Carvin brand (LA BELLA) tapered B, been using that brand for years. The set is cheap. Good growl, not as edgy as say, Sadowsky. They have really good midrange texture and definition. Love 'em.

Circle K strings. It will change your mind about tapered strings. They're all tapered, and the tonal consistency is amazing!
