tapered B string

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I am generally very happy with the strings I use (and the deal I get on them...) but the B string just doesn't speak well, on any of my 5 strings. I know it's not really the basses because on both my Elrick and my F Bass, I have tried taper core strings and noticed the B string was a bit clearer. Has anyone else had this experience?

The only problem is, I hate the feel and all around sound of a whole set of tapered strings. Does anyone just use a single tapered B string? If so, who sells them in singles and whats the best deal for the best string?

Thanks

As a matter of fact, I would guess more sets are sold with only the low B taper than sets that are all taper. I could be wrong.

www.juststrings.com sells single strings. What are you looking for?

just a good, not so expensive tapered B string. it would be great if, once I decide it works for me, I could buy them in bulk at a discount. with travelling for gigs and being on the road it's hard to go buy them in singles...

What kind of music do you play? What kind of strings are you using now?

I can't speak to your question of "best deal" but I use Ken Smith Stainless Steel RockMasters and more often than not I have to buy the taper-core low B separately/singly as no one in my area stocks the exact 6-string set I like. It's like $10 or $12 for the single string.

I use Martin strings...because I get them in bulk for free. They're good strings..just like DR. I play all styles...I guess I have an agressive touch/ higher action and I use a custom gauge (.050, .070, .085, .105, and .125 although I'd like a .130 that Martin won't make me).

I actually typically play 4 string but right now I'm getting ready to go out for a month with Deborah Gibson and I'm taking my 5 string F Bass to cover the low synth bass parts. The bass sounds great but I'm thinking a taped B will speak a bit clearer.

+1 to the Ken Smith's mentioned above. You can buy singles at www.juststrings.com. Have you tried any of the Sadowsky strings? Very nice and their taper b is .130.

Good luck with the tour...
