Tapewound on Carbon Fiber Basses?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello.

Has anyone tested putting tape wounds on a carbon fiber bass?

I'd like to tune one BEAD .. before altering the bass, I'm wondering if it would remove the high overtones and leave us with mud.

Looking to learn - thanks,.

While I've never put nylon tapewounds on either of my graphite basses, I have noticed that the more pristine/hi-fi the bass, the better the tapewound strings work. I'd probably been playing bass for 20 years before I ever heard tapewounds sound decent, because for years all anyone ever put them on were crappy Japanese shortscale hollowbody basses from the 60's, and the occasional unremarkable Fender Precision. Hearing tapewounds on a Pedulla Buzz turned my head around, and I've used them on my last two decidedly modern fretless basses.

I'll bet they'd sound killer on a graphite bass.

Thanks.. GHS makes the thinnest tapes.. may try it before going full tilt.

IT's an expensive experiment.. thanks for removing some of the risk.

I do use tapes on my Pbass copy .. it's 60sbubblegum pop.. low thud is good enough for the band mix.

I have Chromes on the aforementioned Kawai. Not tpaewounds, but the flats sound prfectly fine to me on a graphite necked bass.

Makes sense to me, I dug the La Bella tapes on my L-2000, usually too trebly prior to adding them.

I understsand the stings comment.. issue is it's more of a a bass issue not strings..

I'm already sold on Tapes... it's more if the bass is a good fit.

I know Status sells tapes -- I've NEVER heard of anyone actually using them...
