Any of you guys use tapewounds, like Fender 9120s on your fretted P or J basses? Issues? Do you like 'em?

Thanks.

I have them on my Fender Mike Dirnt p-bass. I had them for a few months now and they're still going strong. They aren't chewed up or freyed at all. I like the tone, and I like their smoothness and flexibility. I even like them a little better than Elixirs, which I also use and like.

I use LaBella tapewounds on my Dean MetalmanZ 4 string, as well as my fretless Yamaha. They sound and feel great!! I think they will last forever - I know my frets will.

Mahalo, HI and Blowfly. I'm looking for a more traditional woody upright sound from my Precision. I'll give 'em a try in the next few weeks.

Take a look at Bobby Vega playing tapewounds on a jazz on Bass Player tv.

It surprised me!

Thanks Funky. I checked it out. Yep, you can use tapewounds on a fretted jazz.

I use Labella 760N on a few insturments (a DIY P, Eastwood club, Brice Beatle bass, and an Epiphone Rumblekat). I'll be putting the Labellas on my Casady and Ibanez AFB200 soon. And I currently have a set of old Fender nylon tapes with the red silk (820s?) on my Bongo.

I use GHS tapewounds on all my fretless basses. I like the feel. Tone-wise they are a little muted so I add a dash of Mid and slide into the groove.

I have some ghs on a new MIJ Precision thinline (neck Humbucker & bridge jazz pups) and am having grounding issues causing hum due to not ttouching metal strings--love the tone otherwise, wooddy & punchy/thumpy all in one--I need to resolve the grounding issues!

9120's on my Jaguar.

They Are "The" sound on it.......

they are two years old, and were on another bass (PJ Copy) ......and worked really well.

They like the Jag better though. No muting, just great sound. EAsy on the fingers, and no squeaking!

I use RotoSound Tru bass on my Maya Precision, I love the pick sound of these strings.

Best wishes

grounding issue seems to be resolved--not sure what the problem was--bad cable maybe--6 mos old puppy took care of that

Anyone else have issues with ground and noise when using tapewounds? I'm thinking of putting them on my jazz. Would shielding the cavities be enough?

I have a set of Fender Tapewound strings on my D'Armond Starfire and they work very well on this bass, giving it an acoustic bass tone quality that I like. One my Fender basses I have a preference for D'Addarion 1/2-rounds.
