Tapewounds on Jaco Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
So I got a Jaco Pastorius Jazz Bass, and it came with some D'addario tapewound strings. I bought some new ones, and they came in today. Now when I put them on I noticed that the D string is missing a section of tape near the bridge. The Jaco Bass's saddles are machined to be circular in multiple spots, almost looking like a super close up view of roundwound strings. Apparently when I tightened them, they were on one section and pulled over to be centered, effectively cutting the tape in that one spot. Now right now the tape seems secure, and it won't move on me but should I order a new set and change them out again or just use these until its 100% necessary to change them?

if it's for home use, I'd not change until I would hear a difference or break the string...

I do play it out, its just a huge pain in the ass since none of the stores around here carry any tapewound strings, forget a specific type

Can you post a picture?
