tapewounds on my jazz(fretted)?

Sign in to disble this ad
I saw tapewounds that looked promising so, does anyone have expience with tapewounds on a jazz bass that is fretted?

also, is there any chance that the tapewounds will cut down on a bit of the rattle/buzz?

(I know I need to change the set up but I like my current one and it only happens when I really dig in.)

I don't have 'em on my jazz, but the tapes I have seem to feel like they have a lower tension than my previous flats so I would expect that any fret buzz issue would be worse.

Sorry but hes right , have tried tapes and the fretbuzz is if anything slightly worse than with standard rounds, flats (or maybe groundwounds) would solve this though

My experience with LaBella Tapes is that the tension is only slightly less than my XL-170 rounds....

Not anymore noticeable fret buzz IMO, provided you use good technique (keep the fret fingers just behind the fret, as you should)...

The sound is mellow, even...not enough attack to do any decent slapping or pick playing, IMO...but GREAT for Jazz and most fingerstyle...no growl...

I love these things on my Carvin AC40...on my Yamaha P/J, they're very good, too, but work better on the AC40 for sure...

Somewhere in late 70s or early 80s, I had a Fender J on which I installed black tapes. The tone was fine enough to keep them on for a couple years, but they were nothing special really. I had no problem with rattling though.

To be clear though, I mainly put them on for the feel and looks. They felt great to play and the visuals (I could see then) were cool. Black strings running down a maple board with black dots across the white guard of a tuxedo with chrome covers & tray. Even if nobody else felt the same, I thought it was a happenin' machine.
