Tapewounds/Nylons for Casady

Sign in to disble this ad
I'd like some thoughts from any tape/nylon users out there. I'm looking for a set for my Casady. I've used Fender tapes and they're OK but seem a little floppy and inconsistent from note to note. I've also used Trubass; nice thuddiness but the tension felt too high. IMHO both sets made it a bit difficult to get a good setup due to the high or low tension. So I guess I'd like to find a happy medium, strings w/ less tension that the Rotos but tighter than the Fenders. I play mainly w/ fingers, stylistically jazz (no slapping/tapping) and different kinds of rock, but mainly w/ a warmer more vintage bass tone. Thanks!

I use Labella Deep Talkin' flats on my Casady. It gives me a wonderful sound with plenty of definition to be heard in the mix.

I know what you mean about the tension on the fenders. I've tried Addario tapes, feel nice but they're a bit thin sounding. My favourite tapes are Pyramid blacks, warmer sound than the other tapes I've tried, and pretty good consistency between strings.

I'm considering Labellas. How are they tension-wise esp. compared to Trubass?

I didn't know Pyramid had a tape....interesting.

Medium. About the same as the heaviest of the Fender tapes (can't remember the model), but stiffer than the other Fender tapes I've tried.

Not nearly as stiff as Roto jazz flats or Labella Jamersons.

I've got the LaBella nylon tapewounds on my Jack Casady. It seems to be a good set for this particular bass. It can totally do the thumpy thing, but it's still articulate enough where it can cut through when you it to do that.
