| tension on chromes, sound vs. GHS

I broke my Low E last night on the gig (during Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now, try getting through that missing a string!) and now need some new flats. I was using GHS precision flats, 45-95 with the 128 B on my stingray5. I love the tension- higher than TI but still not too high. However, I did notice that the D and G strings were much brighter than the B, E, and A, and the G tended to disappear in the mix (same notes played on another string in a higher position did not do this, so it wasn't arrangement or EQ issues). I may want to try chromes, which say on the package "warm/mellow," contrary to what folks usually say about them here. How is the tension on them? I need low tension for my small, arthritic hands, but TI was too low on this bass, GHS has been perfect. How would the light set of chromes compare tension wise and soundwise, anyone know? Thanks. |
