Tension question - TIs vs Rotos vs Rickenbacker strings

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone know the figures for TIs compared to Rotosound 40-95 and standard gauge Rickenbacker strings? I'm after the lowest tension set I can find for a specific bass without going to too thin a gauge ; Roto 40-95 are my usual strings. My understanding is that TIs have the least tension but I'd be interested to see figures.

What strings are you talking about? Flats? Rounds?

Really - by formula there is only so far you can go from gauge to gauge regardless of manufacturer. The difference between brands will be fractions of a pound at any given gauge.

Match the gauge - match the tension. You ought to be able to use D'Addario's or my tension chart if you need to know specifically how much pull you're getting.

If it's a feel thing that's a whole n'other matter....

I can't speak for the Rotos, but TIs and Ric strings have similar G and D string tension but the Ric strings have a tighter bottom end leading to more punch and sustain than TIs. Definitely better if you want a solid rock tone, but TIs of course being what they are, are apples versus oranges here.
