Testing the LaBella Jamerson cables

Sign in to disble this ad
Just strung my CIJ Precision with tree trunks - LaBella flats, the James Jamerson set. I was so sure a truss rod adjustment was needed, so I took the neck off, turned the rod a quarter of a round BEFORE putting on the strings.

Had to turn it back again - no truss rod adjustment needed.

For the time being my amp is at service, so can't really tell you how they sound. They feel good, though.

I've read here at TB that the hi tension of the JJ set might cause neck issues, especially on non-reinforced necks like the CIJs. Well, things look perfect so far.

Cheers!

Nice, I really want to try these because I love thick strings, but the price is downright nasty. I'm using DR Low Riders in maximum thickness currently, any chance you've used them recently to compare?

I love mine... I've got the same gauge with a low B added on my fretted 5 for well over a year now.

No, haven't tried them. The JJ set is pricey, but it's sort of a once-in-a-lifetime investment... If I like them, no need to change for the next ten or so.

They are kind of stiff (playable, though) between bridge and pickup, but very playable in front of the pickup.

That B: NOW we're talking tree trunk. Must be quite down there by your treble pup, eh?

Check out the GHS heavy guage flats. They're almost as thick but half the price.

If you guys are worried about the price on Labella's check out www.imperialguitar.com.

On another TB'ers recommendation i picked up a set of 760FL's for $25, shipping was 6 or 7 (i forget) but still saved a handful over any other site. They also were very communicative and friendly. I don't see the JJ set on their website, but it'd certainly be worth a call to save some cash. Overall it only took 4 days to get the strings (from NY to CA)... Good store.

Hmm, weird, it works when i click it. Either way, just google Imperial Guitar and you should get a store called imperial soundworks. It's a pretty low-tech site, but like I said, they were great to deal with, and pretty cheap.

Maybe a little hammer to thump on that area would add a little flair to one's showmanship.
