Angry Thank God Rotosound doesn't make airplanes

I have had problem in the past with the quality of new "out of the box" of Rotosound strings but I thought it was probably an anomaly. Well, I just opened a new set and gues what? A bad "A" string. Opened another pack and pulled out the "A" and it was bad. One more and you guessed it another bad "A" string. I was furious. I took them all off put on some R Cocco Nickles and perfection! I will never again buy Rotosounds.

I'm just glad that the company that makes Rotosounds strings doesn't make airplanes!

I guess all the perfect Rotosound strings I have gotten have cursed you to never get good ones from them. Sorry
Droot

I love Rotosound Trubass flats, only TI makes anything better IMHO

That happened to me the morning of a gig once. I sent a flaming email to Rotosound. One of the head dudes there immediately emailed me back asking for my address. He sent me the replacement string and another whole set of strings and a bunch of stickers. That was cool. I use DR strings now but I really did appreciate that gesture.

That sucks.

What do you mean by "bad?" Too short? Crimped? Wrong gauge?

By bad I mean it didn't produce a note. It sounded like the core was rattling inside the winding.

I should have done that when I had a bad batch of DR Hi-Beams.

Back in 1998 I bought two sets of Hi-Beams and I broke the E-string on both in short order. I thought it was a problem with my bridge but after a careful inspection I realized that I got a bad batch of strings. Started using Rotosounds then and never looked back. Never had a bad string from them.

Yeah I must have hit a bad batch of strings. Still I'm out $$ and not going to use them ever again. My experience with R. Cocco strings has been the polar opposite. They are high quality and sound perfect.

Wow. In my 31 years of playing bass,I've yet to run across a "bad batch" of bass strings. And,I purchase my strings in bulk! I change strings on average about 2-3 times per month.
What do I use? Stainless D'Addarios & DR's. Lucky I guess,aren't I??

I've been playing bass since 1991 and this is a first time for me too. Doesn't make it any less annoying though. I'll contact Rotosound via their website.

I've been using Rotosounds for over 30 years and never had a bad string - but I can understand your frustration in this case. They're a good company and I think you'll find they do what they can to put things right.

Similar situation here as well, except for a couple of things;
First, I wish it were only 31 yrs (I started young, OK? )
And secondly, the strings I buy in bulk are stainless Rotosounds, RS66LD.

Of course, as with many things I believe that there is no "best or "worse", it's a personal preference. However I've tried a lot of strings over the years, and still do; (usually nowadays prompted by TB fanboy posts) but to my ear no roundwounds sound quite as good as a fresh set of stainless Rotos.
Also, I pay for my strings, I don't have a RS endorsement or any affiliation with them other than being a long time retail patron.

Of course now is when I'll get a case of defective strings...

I'm not an endorser either - but that may change...

+100!

I got a dead E string from a pack of Rotosound strings I bought a couple of years ago and so I emailed them and they sent me a new set lickety split and an apology. I thought their customer service was very good.

I've gotten a couple bad ones from Rotosound, took the packs back to the store and they handled it.

I can't say enough good things about the DR Hellborgs, they are very cool.

Dude, send them an email. If people get two sets + stickers for one bad string, imagine what they will send you for getting THREE bad sets. You could probably hold out for a MIA Jazz

Dang, you must not like this poor guy. Not only did he get bad strings, now you want him to be stuck with a crappy bass!
