Thumbs up Thank you D'Addario

D'Addario has great customer service. Here is my story if you care to read it.

I have been playing D'Addario nylon tape wounds on my SR900 for about a year and though they still sounded good, I thought it might be time to change them, so I asked for and got a set for Christmas.

After they were on, I noticed the D string sounded dull and a lot lower in volume than the other strings. The E was slightly dull too, but not too bad. I noticed that those two strings were a different color than the rest; they were an ashy grey and the other two were black.

Since those strings are not available as singles on their website, I called them to see if they would sell me just the D string.

I didn't get the man's name, but customer service was great. He said he would send me the D string at no charge, and after talking with me for a minute about the set, decided to send me an entire new set, no charge.

They arrived the other day and I changed them out last night. The new set sounds fantastic. I tossed the original bad E and D strings and kept the A and G as spares.

D'Addario didn't have to send me an entire set, that they did says to me that they go above and beyond to keep a customer happy. Thank you unnamed customer service guy and D'Addario.

I know what you mean. I just had a great experience with them as well. I bought a set of Chromes and the E string was really dead compared to the others. I email customer service just asking if that was intended(no...I was not being sarcastic) since I was unfamiliar with that particular set. Two minutes later I got an email saying a replacement was on it's way which I got two days later. The email stated, "We are here for you. Don't hesitate to call/email if you have any problems.
You can't beat that attitude!

I'm saying thank you to D'addario too. Recently Don in their marketing department has been taking very good care of me. I'm a D'addario player for life now.

Great service from Rotosound too.

I had a 'dead' sounding E and A. John at Rotosound sent me, via UPS overnight, an E and A string, and a full set of Swing Bass strings.

Magic customer service....

Yeah, I've had similar experiences with their customer service. Just curious why you wanted to replace the "old" tapes? Tapes don't allow grime between the windings, since they're filled with nylon. Any change in sound?

Sorry to derail.

I recently purchaced a Hagstrom BelugsIIF Bass, My past dealings with guitar strings (not Bass) has always proven that D'Addario has the best quality , period. The Factory Strings that came on the Hag from China were ..... Yuk.... Such a nice Bass, but why do that? I promptly went down to my local Music store and picked up some ECB81 XL Chromes Flatwound regular light guage in .100/.080/.065/.045 These are warm and mello, but snap also when you dial in the bridge humbucker. You get Zero string buzz, and these are beyond reasonable doubt the finest strings ever,, end of story. On the Beluga you need to use the top entrance, not through the body or you run out of string as the wrapping on the neck end will not get placed past the nut. This will save you some headaches. In 20 years I have used about 50 or 60 sets of D'Addarios, seldom they go flat on my Strats or homemade guitars. Other brands seldom last through a Gig. This is why I use the best the Industry has to offer. D'Addarios set up nice and have consistant harmonic integrity.

Nice, love D'Addario's strings. Been using their regular nickle wound lights for years! Never disappoints.

It's not only the grime piling up. It's also a structural change in the metal, due to vibration and tension. So I guess all (metal) strings change over time.

Back on topic?

Good to hear that there are still companies out there that care about their customers.

D'Addario recently contacted me after posting that I didn't like their strings very much here. I gave my honest feedback and suggestions through several E-Mails with a rep that assured me my views would be brought up at the next 'meeting'. I think that is very positive and proactive on their part and although I still hate their strings, I like their CS!

One thing that is Important when you play stringed instruments. You need , Must , Have to, want, drool.... wipe down after every hour of use. This is gospel, I use Tone finger ease Guitar string lubricant . Been using this since 1972 . It is something every player has to have in their tool kit. A couple of good lint free wiper cloths. If you place a non cleaned string under the microscope you will see nasty bits of skin particles, acid etched string surface from your natural oils. Tone cleans this all up and after you start using it your frets will love you. . I buy 4 2.5 oz. sprays at a time, 2 at home 2 in the case, or back of amplifier. Take my word if you have never used it , you will love it and Bobs your uncle. Bass Whaler

Sorry to take so long to respond.
They had been on for over a year and I mistakenly assumed they needed to be changed. It turns out they didn't because the new set sounds the same. I'm impressed that they last so long. I practice daily for 1-1.5 hours. I learned something new about tapes.

I've also had good experience with D'Addario customer service.
I purchased a set of 5 strings pro steels.
While stringing my bass up, I noticed the "G" had what looked like a nick/scrape, not a smooth string, and def not just crimped in that spot.
Called D'Addario, explained my problem, boom free replacement "G."
I didn't even have to pay shipping.

Props to George and the other fine folx at D'Addario!

I had a similar situation and they came through. IMHO they're a great company that cares about their product. I love chromes on my fretless. Now I only use D'Addarios.

Nothing but love for the CS folks at D'A. I have had a few string issues over the years and a replacement has been sent out in a day or two no questions asked. The CS there is one reason I play their strings.

I just thanked Don from D Adarrio last night. I bought a set of strings and first practice my finger tips turned black.

I got an apology and an offer of a free set of strings.

Once again thank you for stepping up so quickly and without being asked to.

Things like that really impress.

Don's a very good guy to deal with. He genuinely cares about the brand and it's perception in the market and it shows in how the whole company takes care of their customers. Just ace people.

D'Addario's CS is second to none. When I broke a guitar string, I emailed them, and within 15 minutes I got a very apologetic letter. Two days later, I got a package in the mail from them. Not only did they send me a loose string to replace the broken one, they also sent me a fresh pack of strings.

That's how you do it. DR, take notes.
