Is there such a thing as an 80's string?

I have a 1980 Aria SB-900, and I am looking for an 80's style sound. I have the bass, but my strings don't sound so 80's. I have DR Highbeams, and while they are great strings, I feel they don't have that 80's sound I grew up on. Any thoughts?

There really aren't any "80's strings". The sound you want is going to be either in your fingers or in effects you use....or possibly in the mix of the band you play in. If you had asked about 60's strings, I would have recommended flats, but I don't think that any strings typified the 80's.

light gauge strings work well IMO. but I suppose it's all subjective!

I think of 15 inch speakers, no tweaters, lots of compression, and new round nickels (Boomers, XLs).

Roto Sound Swing Bass 66 "The string of the 1980's." on the Aria and you are there.

When I think 80's, I think back to all the guys that used to use sets like Superwound Funkmasters 90-70-50-30 or some such small gauges.
