I want to get the thickest set of strings possible. Where should I look to? I'm using D'Addario Flats right now, but they are of only average thickness. Is there a set of strings that goes thicker than the average? |

I use SIT Conklin Signature strings
available here: http://www.conklinguitars.com/accessories.html
or here: http://www.bassguitarstrings.us/store/home.php?cat=361
Mine are the following gauges:
F# .165
B .135
E .110
A .80
D .55
They also sell a .195" string that is suitable for tuning down to C# (more than an octave below a standard electric bass guitar).
Obviously you don't have to tune the strings to the note they are intended... I think I remember someone saying they used the .195" for an F#.

The way I have the TruBasses on my bass: .075, .100, .115, .135
Both E-G, both flats.
No, I'm not kidding. And I think that makes mine thicker.

I recently put a set of Jamersons on my '57 RI and it seems like the saddle won't go back far enough, the 12th fret keeps coming out slightly sharp. |

I'm a high tension guy, but that is some wild high cabling right there.
I'm starting to mess with some upright strings right now and can't wait to see what you do feels like.

I like the way you think.

The gauges of the Group I set are: 55-75-90-110 | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
