thinking about flats for my barker vertical bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a barker vertical bass tuned BEAD that I used for the first time in a live setting last month. It's got a pair of basslines jazz pickups on it. Anyway, I'm considering putting a set of D'Addario chrome flatwounds on it. the goal is a fat warm tone that is distinctly different from my Zon Sonus tuned normal. I am finding that I like using the Zon for a more punchy tone and the vertical for a fat warm tone.

Not sure if the tone of flatwounds are what I'm after. What sort of results should I expect? Will it make it too muddy? How much sustain will I lose? The Barker with its huge body mass has a ton of sustain so it might not be a problem to lose a little but...
