Thinking of switching to flatwounds

I've been having a problem lately. When I play my Corvette Proline I have to roll my treble almost all the way back to keep from having an excessive "clackity-clack". This has the unfortunate side effect of strangling my tone. This isn't much of a problem on my Geddy Lee J though, so I'm not inclined to think it's me or my amp.

I'm starting here in strings because of what I've read about flats not being as bright as the rounds I've always used. This seems like the best place to start. The other options would be pickup replacement or trading for a new bass. Neither one of those options really appeal to me though. I've never messed with pickups before and I hate the idea of paying someone else to do it. I don't want to trade because the old 'Wick is nice and comfortable to play and I think it's damn sexy looking to boot.

What do you guys think?

What type of strings are you playing on the 'wick currently? There are some mellow rounds out there, my favorite being the D'Addario XL nickel-wounds... They mellow nicely after a few weeks of playing... That being said, all but one of my basses is currently wearing flats

I have flats on my 6 string Ibanez. I like a good solid, clear sound (plenty of bass but clear, distinguishable notes (not mud)). The TI flats I have on mine are perfect for what I want.

this is my 3rd attempt at trying flats - the first time was on a Precision (Rotosound monel flatwound), second was Chromes on a Rickenbacker. Neither sounded like I wanted them to.

These are fantastic. Expensive but worth it.
