With the average price tag on these strings, I've never even given them a second look. Over the years, my favorite set of strings has become the DR Hi-Beams, which are priced at a very respectable $25 a set. But all that is about to change...
I recently acquired a stingray5 from a tb member. I picked it up to play it for the first time, and my first reaction was "OMG, these strings feel amazing!!!". I pm'd him as I had to know what these strings were. Amazingly, he told me they were Thomastik Infeld Jazz Round Wounds. I was in awe. The feel of these strings is nothing short of fantastic. They have a wonderfully slick feel, and they vibrate so effortlessly. I immediatly bought a fresh set and put them on my warwick. These strings made this bass sing like never before, and I hadn't even plugged the bass in yet! The acoustic quality of this bass was instantly upgraded with these strings. Plug the bass in, and you have nothing short of an amazing sound. Rich and full of musical overtones that I never even knew existed!
These strings are the real deal people. They are worth the high price tag...

nice choice |

Tension wise, they are bouncy and are very limber. I personally think they slap great, with punch lows, plucks that will never sound harsh. |

I'll put these on my list of "must try" strings. |

I have TI Jazz Flats on my P-Bass, and I'm perfectly happy with them, but strings with even lower tension? ...

Probably would be interesting. I just replaced my Bongo strings with Ernie Ball Super Slinky Strings so it would be about 6 months until I restring it.

| | | | So where to get them? Who has the best price? How much $$$
My MIM Jazz has the stock Fender rounds on it, I was going to put good old Roto's on but the TI's sound interesting.
I have a set of TI Jazz flats on my P and they're great. Got 'em used of the 'bay. |

Oops! Edited to mention, Carol Kaye only sells the TI flatwounds. |

Dude, you coming around. Of course, locally they're available at Parkway Music. Anyone else interested I would check out the Dudepit (steve "Dude" Barr) at vintage bass trading company.
I've been an TI endorser for quit a few years and would play anything else but Jazz Rounds!

Since you used DR Hi-Beams before; how does the tension compare? They TIs are lighter gauge strings and I'm assuming they're also round core (like their flatwounds), so I would imagine that they have a lower tension than the DR Hi-Beams?
Wonder if BassNW has them...

Yes, they are wound on a round core. I would definetly say they have a slightly lower tension than DR Hi-Beams. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
