Thomastik Jazz Rounds

I love these strings and they nail the tone I'm after fresh out the pack but after a couple of weeks they seem to loose their edgie growl I like and just mellow out. Has anyone else found this?

What I want to know is that are there any other strings out there that have the "fresh out the pack" warm growl sound of the Jazz Rounds but stay like that for some time.

Thanks

You might consider using alcohol wipes after every use to keep them new for a longer time. Depending upon your body chemistry, yours might be killing your strings in quick fashion.

I bought a set of JR on a whim, but never installed them. I have no first hand knowledge of life. If they are like TI Flats, they should live a very long time. My original set of JF344 are still going since 2000.

I know what you mean. The TI Jazz Rounds have the perfect tone when they're fresh, and then they mellow out of bit. For me though, maybe it isn't as quickly, or a bad thing. I've had the same set on my Stambaugh 6-string for maybe 5 months now and they still have a very useable, awesome tone. I've been playing a little heavier and more towards the bridge lately and I think that helps bring out that growly, edgy tone still. I'll probably keep them on for another month or two.

Not tried them but I really want to after seeing Loikre's video. They are very expensive (especially for me in the UK) and I don't want to buy a string that dies quickly when I can buy something like a double pack of sunbeams for the same price.

I love the JRs as well, but I have been playing Zon Light Gauge Nickel sets on my fretless 5's and they are a good compromise, and don't get that super-dark tone as they break in. I'm not a frequent string changer and they have been holding up very well. Probably 6+ months on my Zon Sonus 5 fretless, and 4+ on my SR5 fretless, and they still sound great.

I used the Zon Nickels on my Elrick Singlecut (while I had it), and I remember liking them a lot

Yeah the tone is still way better than any other string I've tried - even after being worn in so I'm guna stick with them I think.

I might check out those Zon nicks though

Thanks
