What source/retailer do you use? The only one I've looked at is web-strings.com

problem with the webstrings is that their medium gauge has a .80 A string. that doesn't work for me.

juststrings.com

They offer both nickel coated and stainless steel roudwounds in bulk. 6 .110s for 10 bucks as opposed to 1 .110 for 10 bucks from name brands. I ordered em because I want my low D a little thicker than the rest but no string brands offer a low D set, not in nickel wounds anyways. Not sure how they sound/their longevity yet, should be here in a few days I guess. Whatever, saves a heck of a lot of money, 6 sets of strings in the right gauge made of the right material.

The juststrings brand strings just came in and they seem to have most of the tonal qualities of name brand strings that I get...they are also particularly strong and I don't forsee them breaking for a long time. No imperfections or anything. Just put em on yesterday so I can't say anything about longevity yet.

How do they compare to GHS boomers? Those are my brand string of choice.

Never tried em, sorry. I didn't really pay attention to strings until the past couple months. I just went with what people suggested, not paying attention to material etc. But all my free time in college is usually going to perfecting my tone, so I've gotten everything down to my strings, so one of my favorite artists uses nickel wounds, and I wanted to customize the gagues cheap, so got these. Eventually I'll compare them to some real brands, now that I care. Heck, I'll get the GHS boomers first, something new.

I've been using D'Addario for the most part of my bass playing career. Mainly do to living in a smaller town and that's all I've really been able to find. I remember trying Blue Steels once and I absolutely hated them. I was upset that I even spent the money. They ate my fingers alive and died within about five hours. I think I'll give the GHS Boomers a try. Does anyone know if all steel strings are as bad as Blue Steels? Oreo, be sure to let us know how those strings hold up. If the feedback is good I'll give them a try.
