For those of you with more than one bass

Do you have the same gauge of strings on all of them (for convenience), or do you use different brands/gauges?

TIA

Different guages, different types ie: Roundwounds, Flatwounds, Tape, elixer nanowebs. Different sounds for different situations.

Diff strings for diff bases. Depends on:

-Scale (can go lighter on my 35)
-the basses truss rod (My OLP's neck moves alot)
-lighter strings for good slappers (MTD Kingstons), heavier for the thumper (P-bass)
- etc...

All of mine are nickel roundwounds,tho...mostly DRs..

Different. Fretless gets Compressors. 4 strings get ultra light (.090 E), 8 and 12 get lighter yet (.085) for the fundamental strings, La Bella piccolo strings for the octave strings. 5 gets super thick (.130) because it's tuned down. Stainless rounds, except the compression wound Compressors.

Nope, I change string gauges depending on what I am playing and what the tuning is.

I am going to answer this again. Same gauge 45-105, but DR Sunbeams for EADG tuning and DR Nickel Lo-Riders for DGCF tuning because of the strings' higher tension.

GHS Super Steels -> IBanez ATK
La Bella Hard Rocking Steel -> Modulus Q6
Smith Rock Masters -> Lakland 55-02 (Changing to DRīs next week to tryout)

I havent found the perfect set for the rest of my basses yet.

Same on all: DR Hibeams, except for when i'm feeling the need for flats, in which case I use TI jazz flats.

It's all trial & error until you find the tone you are looking for.

After going through just about every string brand out there I use EB Hybrid Slinky's on my Fender Jazz and Regular Slinky's on my SRX.
