| Thought I'd try a set of flats.

Stolled up to GC today, just to be a dork and fool around a bit. Since they've become a Lakland "Dealer", they have lots of new fun.
Anyways, I needed a new set of strings to throw on my NS-2, since the previous owner had some REALLY dead, heavy (.50 - .130) nickel roundwounds on it that just -- sucked. I use d'Addario nickels on my ReBop, and d'Ad ProSteels on the Ibanez. I've been reading lately how many people are using flats, and decided to give it a go. The NS is STUPID bright, and was clicky and very treble-y, even with dead strings. I spotted a lone set of Rotosound .45 - .105s (even though I like .45 - .100), and picked them up. I put them on about 4 hours ago, and started playing a bit, after a quick neck tweak.
Wow. It was exactly the sound I was looking for. I can't really describe what they sounded like to me, as I only had a little while to play around, but it's great. Only problem I had, is that with the huge difference in feel, I found myself overshooting notes if I wasn't death-gazing the fretboard. No biggie, I got used to it after a bit. I realized how much difference there is in string feel between the rounds and flats -- it's immense. I've never played flats before, but I'm never afraid to try anything. I am very pleased, and I give a big thank you to all the jerks on the board that took their time to review and write about their pleasing experience with flatwounds. Now, if I stop being lazy tonight, I'll do the 18V upgrade I've been meaning to do for the last 2 weeks.
