through body stringing??

Please excuse my ignorance but can anyone tell me the difference between stringing up my bass through the body rather than standard???

Some will say that through body stringing causes more sustain and a "fuller" sound. I haven't noticed this at all. Also, through body stringing requires the use of longer strings sometimes. Some brands standard long scale sets will not work through the body. Let your ears be the judge, as there are a lot of different viewpoints on this subject.

I have had two basses in the past which allowed me to string both ways. I couldn't tell the difference.
