thump and roundwounds

Sign in to disble this ad
when i bought my squier p-bass a few days ago it had some old dirty roundwounds on it. the cool thing was it was very thumpy (which led me to buying the bass). Constant 8th root notes sounded great with that thumpiness (both fingerstyle and pick)

anyways, i brought new strings (heavy gauge snarling dogs) and now i'm wondering how to get these rounds thumpy as well. It's very zingy and crisp (like all new roundwounds) but the constant 8th root-ing sounds bad and clangy

just what exactly makes (rounds) strings thumpy? tension? gauge? what trait of flatwounds can roundwounds have to make them thumpy?

or will I just have to wait for the strings to deaden a little bit?

They died.

Gotta ask, if you like the sound "thumpy (flats)", why you stuck on rounds? Just wondering.

if you want to make rounds dead then go eat something greasy and rub your fingers all over the strings or just play alot so you are sweating alot over the strings to make them "thumpy".

Try some GHS Boomers or Elixer Nanoweb rounds.
