Thunderbird on a Jazz Bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Jazz-style Bass with Fralin Pickups. I'm trying to get that Thunderbird thick thump and growl without getting a new bass/pickups. What strings will get me a rootsy, deep, voicing out of Jazz Pickups.

I don't think strings are going to get you there.

It's really the only option I have. If I could buy a Thunderbird it would be in my hands right now. But until then, I'm looking for something to tide me over.

Adjusting your EQ would produce better results.

Any sample settings?

also, would strings help at all?

I'm thinking NPS or Pure Nickel

I've never played with a Thunderbird for an extended period of time, but I would guess boosted bass and low-mids while cutting treble?

A set of DiMarzio Model J pickups would get you closer...they go on here for around $60 a set. That's 3 sets of strings and it'll make a much bigger difference IMO.
