TI flats on my jazz????

Sign in to disble this ad
I have two basses, one is a classic series P with TI flats on it and they're never coming off as I couldn't be happier. I tried the TI's on my classic 60's jazz and wound up putting my nickel loriders back on but didn't give them a chance in a band situation. Now I'm thinking should I give it another try on my jazz? I just hope taking the flats especially TI's with a round-core on and off several times wont weaken them. When you spend $60 on strings you don't want to have one break so I'd rather hear from players who tried both rounds and flats on there jazz basses to help me decide.

I have Labella flats on my P and TI Flats on my MIM Jazz.

Previously I had Hibeams 40-100 and 45-105 on Jazz, but it never sounded as great as with TI Flats!
Simply amazing for fingerstyle, pick and even slap (they are quite fresh, we'll see how much zing they'll loose in the future).

Go and try them, they should not break.

I have Rotosound flats on my Jazz bass and I LOVE the vintage tone. There is also plenty of growl. I used last night to cut a more modern rock song, and I almost debated throwing a set of rounds on, but I didn't and the sound was phenominal!

My only complaint about the Roto's is the tension is like telephone wire, but the tone is exactly what I want.

I always had Rotosound Swing 66 nickel on my jazz, put a set of Chromes on it and it sounds great!
I would recommend chromes but i have never tried TI's the fact that they have such low tension always scared me and i dont want to spend all that money on a set i wont like!

For me the tension isn't a big issue as you should quickly adjust. I tried Chromes and the tone wasn't what I wanted it was too metallic or harsh then i tried EB flats they were nice strings also and GHS/Laklands which are good then finally the TI's and man they just kill in the tone department. I'm just afraid of loosing that jazz with rounds tone but that said I'm probably gonna put the flats back on.

I have TI flats on my P and J basses and I couldn't be more happy. I love the lower tension and the warmer tone associated with nickel plating. Plus they last forever!

I've always put rotosounds on my jazz. I tried a set of the TI flats a few years back but it just wasn't the tone I was going for, but it might work for you.

I don't get any of that noise on the fretted fivers I have strung with TI flats, and I've been known to dig in when I play. The video shows plenty of sloppy technique, which has been known to causes that kind of noise.

+1
but that said he probably just needs to tweak the rod and add a little relief or raise the saddle a little and be mindful of his attack.

In response to the responses to the video I posted: first off, that's not me. Secondly, I posted that video because, IMO, that bass sounds really good with those strings. I like the sound, and I thought an example would be helpful.

That being said, I have not used TI Jazz Flats. I soon will have Chromes on all of my basses. I realize that my opinion is useless in that I haven't played these strings. However, the tones I have heard (Pino, YouTube Jazz Bass player) are very good.

I have TI Flats on all my basses!
They rule on Fretless. They rule on fretted.
Miles and miles above standard (like... EB) flats.

I'll have to buy a new JB to put the La Bella Deep Talkin' Rounds I also love....

I do have a question for other TI users:
They last forever, but I have to clean the fretboard, is it ok to take them off? Are there special precautions to take in this process?

I've taken my on and off a few times without any problems so far. I just take a little care and time with them. I think any round core string is more prone to breakage if your not careful with them. I had DR sunbeams break on me when I had to take them off and on a coupe times to work on a P bass I use to have so now I just go slow and take care when switching them back and forth.
