TI Flats on my Sadowsky 5

Sign in to disble this ad
I just came home from my first rehearsal after putting a set of TI flats on my Sadowksy 5 string. I was blown away! The tone I have been looking for years! Especially the g string, playing higher on the neck, blows away any roundwound string I have had on this bass. Wonderful cutting tone on the G and D string, loud and present while still being warm and punchy. And first position notes really cut through the guitars. I am usually having to play in higher positions on lower strings to cut through but with these I can play a B flat on the G string and actuall be heard! In my band I play alot of fills and lead parts and play more than just a supportive role, and I can't believe that Flats could sound better than DR's.
I have a problem though. I only had a 4 string set of Jazz Flats. So I have a DR Lowrider Steel B string, and the tone obviously doesn't match. I would love any opinions yall have on the TI Flat B string, and also where to get just that string, whithout shelling out 60 bucks for a whole new set. Any thoughts???

Yep. TI Flats are awesome, for sure!

You can get the singles here:

Though I didn't think the B-string was quite as nice as the rest of them. Not that any flatwound B's I've played are really great. Maybe check out the Sadowsky flatwound B? It's tapered at the bridge, and is supposed to be very nice.

I thought I read somewere that the 'stops' or 'barrel' on the TI Flats are too small and pull out of the Sadowsky bridge... appearently not... comments.

The TI Flats have a barrel kind of like that of a double bass string. It seems to work just fine in the Sadowsky Bridge. I'll let you know if the strings falls out halfway through my gig tonight...
