ti flats question

Sign in to disble this ad
hi, i recently traded for an mia jazz string thru body. i read that la bellas sometimes break with string thru and i was wondering if anyone had any sound clips of a set of TI jazz flats with a string thru on a mia jazz bass or even just on a bass?

any comments comparing the ti vs my old standby of fl760s?
any thoughts much appreciated.

my jazz is a 96 model

Lots of thread comparing all the flats out there, and TIs and LaBellas in particular. TIs work great through the body, but some guys here use LaBellas through the body too without problems.

TI's are very supple for a flatwound, I don't think they'll easily break when stringing through the body. They will sound very different from the fl760's though, but that could be a good thing.

I thought that I had ready that TI does not recommend using their flats for string trough bridges. I might be wrong -

No, you are right, it is not reccomended. Some people do it, but I think it creates extra stress on the string windings.

So no ti or labella? ... Can I use standard length?
Is there a place for a great deal on these?
Thanks for this point on Ti

I'm using TI's on my 95 Am Std string thru Jazz. Regular long scale (34"). Seems to work fine for me. I did have the wraps separate on a "G" string at the 7th fret, but I don't see how this could have been caused by a string thru body. It was more like a kink in the string. I recently had the ball-end let go on a "D" string on my 62 P bass. Wasn't even playing it. It was just sittin' waiting for me.

Labella flats will indeed crack at the core when strung through the body. TI's will not.
Check it out .... http://www.juststrings.com/lab-760fl.html read where it says important note.

TO the best of my knowledge the previous posters are correct. TI recommends NOT stringing through body but I have never heard of any failures from doing so either so I think it works fine. I don't have any sound clips of it though.

You need to figure out a way to get the TI's on your bass because they sound great!

i have a set of ti's on my fender 51 strung through the body and have not given any problems as of yet,i think the ti's are very good strings that reallly have a midy voice which is great for cutting through, though not as dark and thumpy as i bet labellas would be, they have a great motown tone nonetheless

This might be convincing enough... I hope.
Listen to this jazz bass with TI's.

The most versatile flatwound string I've ever used. Hope you like the tone, and be sure to read the description below the video too.

A little bit more convincing... Now this is the way flats are supposed to sound.... IMHO

I've had TIs on and off my Lakland, through the body, several times, even using old sets again, with no problem at all. I can't fit the Chromes B string through the hole in the bridge on my 55-94 so the B goes through the body. I haven't broken a string in 45 years.

Same here..... I've only broken a string once in roughly 40 years. It was a 760FL E string. It seemed fine while it was strung up, but it snapped while removing it from a through body bridge.

I've had my TIs strung through the body of my P5 for at least 7 months now with no issues. They've been on taken on and off for a few surgeries as well, and still haven't given me problems.

Maybe I'll try to make some soundclips later.
