I'm a fan of the fingerstyle tone but not the pick tone. I'd say try some cheap flats (Carvin has some for 26 bucks that are made by Labella) first before you take the plunge.

i had some TI on my 30th sr4, but they made him have the g string issue

i love the sound, but i use the g string quiet a lot. so i pulled them off.
i also tried chromes (steal the typical sr sound) and fender (liked them most).
now i play rounds again because i need a bass for a common slap sound. if i ever put flats on the sr again, i will go with the fender (95er).

While I just quit using TI flats, they were the first flat I tried on my StingRay 5, and I had GREAT results with that pairing.

I've played a sterling with TI flats and it just had the fullest most rounded but aggressive tone. Think the most well built, deadly looking, with the best coat pit bull barking XD

It's been a while, but I liked Chromes and LaBellas better. As a finger style player, I think flats are prefect on the SR5.

I've been playing with TI jazz flats on my StingRay 5 for a year now............best sound ever. I've used every other brand, but TIs are the best and the sound gets even better over time. Don't worry about price because they last longer than any other brand and will pay for themselves. I know one bassists who got seven years from one set. May I suggest buying them from www.bassemporium.com they have the best price for the fives. Don't worry about the loose tension either that many people talk about. When I put them on, I had to do a little saddle adjustment for the intonation, but no big deal. They feel good and are very smooth. They sound great either fingerstyle or with a pick, I play both depending on the song. So if you are debating whether to buy them or not, stop worrying!!!

Buy them, you won't be disappointed.

Just my experienced opinion.
Johnny
