TI Flats vs. Hi-Beams on a Spector

Sign in to disble this ad
i was thinking of trying out a set of TI flats on my spector. i've heard a lot about them being lower tension. i also know that Hi-beams are lower tension. would there be much of a difference between the two? also, has anyone else tried flats on a spector?

The are just about as different as you can get, but it's true both are low tension roundcore strings.

TI Flats are flats, thumpy strings, after a few weeks they just round out and sound nice.

Hi Beams are rounds, very zingy strings and stay alive for a long time after a few weeks or even months.

What kind of sound are you going for, so we can better help you? Because these are 2 strings you couldn't even compare fairly, but both are some of the best in their category.

i was really just wanting to compare the tension of the two...i was hoping the "tightness" would be similar if i wanted to give TI flats a try (i do know they would be more thumpy).

I was also just wondering if anyone had tried flats on a spector and what they thought...

I have TI flats on all my basses but no Spectors. I don't see why they shouldn't sound good on a Spector as they sound good on every type of bass I have and they are all quite different from each other.

By the way, I don't think "thumpy" describes TI flats. Other brands of flats maybe. But I'd describe the TIs as warm and round rather than thumpy. If you want a dull thump use too much foam muting under them but a very slight amount of foam cuts out some of the annoying harmonics, or at least annoying to me. The TI flats are quite a bit different than other flats I've tried and the only ones I use now.
