They continue to growl but you might notice the highs fading after a few weeks. They level off and keep the same kind of sound for a long long time after that initial change. I play with a guitar player that always makes these comments about flats being too tame or dead sounding and after a few rehearsals he finally admitted that my J with TI Flats sounds better than any bass he has heard lately. In the past year or more he hasn't made that comment even once. So it isn't just bass players that have prejudices against flatwounds.
