TI Jazz Flats Experts..Help Please!

I'm about to bite the bullet and buy a set of TIJF for my 35" USA Millennium 5, but I can't find any definitive answer as to which length I should get. The 345 set seems to be designated for 34" scale basses, whereas the 365 set appears designed for the 36" type. Anyone have an idea? Also, the .136 B string sounds like a tree trunk! Is filing the nut, in general, necessary to make the B string fit?

TIA...

If that's a regular string through the bridge 35" bass, the 345 set should work. If I recall, TIs are pretty long for regular long scale strings. Email them--I have heard their customer service is very good.

You probably won't have to file the nut for a .136 string. That gauge actually balances with the tension of the other strings very well. Most 5 string sets have a B that is really floppy tension-wise, compared to the other strings.

I use the JF365 set on USA Millennium 5, through the BODY.
No need to file on mine.

Wow, Bill, that's interesting! I thought the only flatwound manufacturer that DOESN'T recommend against doing that was DR.

Your right, I've been told not to string through the body. But, I've had this same set of JF365's on and off the millennium and my 55-01 a number of times over 4 years and still no problems.
I think the TIJF sound great on the millennium. The only drawback i found is that the B string isn't great, it's ok, but not great.

Here's a clip, straight into the soundcard. Fingers, slap, pick.

Hmmm...I'm thinking I'll try the JF345 set and string through the bridge. Does the B string on your set sound better when it's on your 55-01?
