I know it varies a lot depending on time played, amount of acidity in perspiration etc, but I'd just like to get an overall idea of how long you guys have had them on. Mine have been on for three and a half years, still sounding great. I read on Carol Kay's site that she got five years out of a set. Not bad at all considering her busy schedule.

The fiver gets played more but both are played regularly, both sound just great. I was thinking about picking up a spare set with all the sales right now but figured no need since I won't need to replace either of these for at least a few more years.

Most offer 10% off or more.

To be fair, the last several years I've been focusing on a different instrument so I would say they were used half the time with regular playing and half with just a couple hours a month.
I've been back into bass lately, and just last week I took the TIs off and tried some DR Lo Riders and some D'Addario XLs because it just seemed like the TIs couldn't possibly be good anymore (despite my ears still enjoying them). I lasted about a day before I put the TI set back on!
Considering for most of the 90s I changed my XLs at least monthly, TIs are a bargain multiple times over.
They are pure gold! |

I have a set on my fretless P-Bass, 4 years.
They still sound great.
I'm a stickler for wiping down string after every time I play.
This little act, extends life of strings a long time. |

In a lot of threads about TI's you often see comments like "they are too expensive". They are initially, but considering their long life, they are actually quite cheap for the reason you describe above.
