TI Jazz questions

Greetings

I love these strings (ROUNDS), perfect tension, great gauges on both 4 or 5 string sets. I like the sound.

One issue is there anything that's a little brighter with all the same specs, especially the tension?

Are you talking about the TI jazz rounds or flats?

TI's are by far the brightest flatwounds on the market. You want anything brighter with the same tension and you'll have to move to roundwounds.

there are of course GHS Bright Flats. Yup, thats what they're called and thats what they do

I just put on SIT power flats I think they're called they're brighter than TI Flats. Very Nice and Alive if you will, not dull or thuddy by any means.

But my opening question was in regards to TI Jazz (Rounds).

There is nothing quite like the TI Jazz Rounds, especially for feel. One of the reasons that they have the feel that they do is that there is a silk wrap between the core and the outer windings.

Although I find my JR's top be plenty bright, they don't have the harmonic content that other strings do mainly due to the silk. I am able to get any tone I want from the strings (could also be that I play a vry bright bass - MTD 535) with slight adjustments to my technique or EQ

I agree with that, because I used to play Jazz Rounds on a few of my basses and the SuperAlloys have taken their place. They aren't quite as low-tension as the JRs but they sound fuller and on my basses they sound more balanced.

Sounds about right, maybe it's the harmonics the whole time I wasn't hearing great point!

I play a Lull Jazz 4 string with 2 band Bart & Lindys and a Ken Larwence 5 string 3 band with bass line custom soap bars this bass has alot of highs, lows, mids. Close to the MTDs power but not really the same sound, it's more like a souped up jazz on streriods.

Are you saying the Super Alloys are low tension?

Not as low as the Jazz Rounds, but much lower than Maxima Golds, which I consider to be a 'medium' tension string.

Superalloys are very close in tension to Powerbass strings so if you thought they were too high you most likely will feel the same about the SA BUT they are a tad less tension then the PB. IMO there is no string round string I have tried that has tension as low as the Jazz rounds so I could direct you to a brighter string. (SA are slightly brighter, Powerbass even more so) but you will loose one of the aspects you apparently like. Perhaps you can try adjusting your tone/amp EQ/etc.

I have had good luck with some of the Zon sets. They make a Light Gauge set is both stainless and nickel. Stainless Lights are .038 to .095, and the Nickel Ultralights are .035 to .095. The stainless set would be brighter, but they are not going to last and get all warm sounding like the TIs.

The composite tension on a set of Jazz Rounds is freakishly low 121 pounds per set, where the SuperAlloy's are 180 and the Powerbass are 184. But the smaller windings on the SA set are more like the JRs. For that low tension you will be scouring the ultralight sets from most manufacturers.
