TI Jazz Rounds are Awesome

Strings and Beyond had a 15% off TI strings sale recently, so I ordered a set of Jazz Flats.

Well, I goofed and actually ordered the JR344 set, and not the JF344 set. These have to go back, I thought, but since I have never tried a new set of these, I thought what the heck. I put them on my 4HH Bongo.

These strings are fantastic. Buttery smooth and responsive, easy on the hands, and the word "slinky" doesn't even come close to it.

If you're hard on strings, or slap a lot, they aren't for you. But otherwise, give them a try. Like the Flats, the Jazz Rounds are unique. Wow.

My only question is, how am I going to afford a $45/set rounds habit?

Any chance you've tried the TI Superalloys and can make a comparison? I'm convinced that TI flats are the best strings made, but was underwhelmed by the superalloys. Ok strings, but no real magic. Curious how the TI jazz rounds compare.

I've had them on my bass for about 8 months now. I play in 2 bands at church and practice at least twice a week. They lost some of their 'zinginess' after about a month, but I totally love the way they sound, even now - I still have to roll off some of the highs, but I really love these strings. Unless you want that 'zinginess' all the time, they should last a long while.

EDIT: Just to be clear, I'm talking about the TI Jazz Rounds, not the Superalloys...

The Jazz Rounds are nothing like the Super Alloys. They are much closer to the JFs since they both have the silk wrapping on the core under the windings. If you like the jazz flats, you owe it to yourself to try the jazz rounds.

The Superalloys are a very good but very standard roundwound string. I would not say that the Jazz Rounds sound like Jazz Flats but they have the same unique design that sets them apart. The Jazz Rounds are very mellow even when new but with very high in the mids. They are VERY low tension though even more so than the flats so keep in mind that most people need to adjust their technique to play them. They are hands down my favorite rounds. I do like the Superalloys as well too but in a completely different way.

I'm a big fan of Jazz Rounds on fretless.

Interesting. When I got my Sadowsky V5 fretless I tried a set of JRs on it. Didn't work at all, it just sounded thin and puny. Swapped them for a set of DR sunbeams and all was well.

I LOVE the JRs on my 66 Jazz. They are a treat to play, super dynamic, very musical (I've said this many times on this forum) and they feel like no other string out there.

I took advantage of the Strings and Beyond sale and bought two sets. I slapped one set on my Fender 62 AV Jazz. The gauges are a little unconventional and I had to tweak the truss rod but I love the feel and sound of these strings. I had used them some years back on a p-bass so I knew what to expect. The other set is a spare which I don't think I'll be needing for a while.
