TI-Jazz Rounds Some funky gauge, huh?

Sign in to disble this ad
The TI Jazz Rounds really intrigue me with their strange gauge:

043-051-068-089 compared to the more typical 45 65 80 100 / 45 65 85 105

Has anyone played these and what are your thoughts? Does the strange gauge necessitate a re-setup?

Hi:

I've tried these on my Guild Starfire II, and they
are the best. yeah, the skinny E string is a little
weird and you have to do a truss rod adjustment
(low tension), but the bass has more mids than
ever before, and a nice bottom E.

I have Jaz flats on the Guild right now, and they
are good for old school thump, but I miss the
highs and "snap" of the Jaz rounds.

Good luck!

I recently acquired a Spector 5 that had just had a set of TI Jazz Rounds installed. I was a little curious how they would sound but I've been very satisfied so far. The sound is balanced with good highs and lows and I can get just about any sound I want out of the bass.

The lighter gauge and reduced tension takes a little getting used to although the 35" scale helps out here. The B string is something like a 110 or 115 gauge which makes it almost seem like an E string....

Thanks for your responses. With the string tensions as low as they are for those strings (talk about slinky!), I would think they would take some getting used to. However, I have heard about the great mids and the highs are stronger than they are for the flats.

And although the gauge is related, I realize now that it is the low tension of these strings that necessitates that relief adjustment

I might give them a try on my fretless.
