| Like so many, Ive used TI flats and like them V much. I've a fairly light plucking action with no digging in so a low action on the bass suits me just fine.
Currently I've them on a 1977 fretless Precision and they sound just lovely! I have had issues with the G sounding just a bit too thin for my taste (also with their Jazz rounds) but they were on active instruments. On passives, IMHO, they're just the job. I guess I'm a player with 'old-school' tastes in basses and bass sounds. I love the feel of the TIs.
My exception to old-school is my 2004 USA Dlx Jazz 5 string. I've had everything on that (except TI Jazz Flats!!) and have gone back to Rotosound 88s Black Nylon. They sound great, IMHO, and look superb against the maple board and the gold pickguard ... again, Imho. One of these days I'll pick up a fretless P with a maple board and put the Roto 88s on it. Should be awesome!!
Interestingly, both instruments sound really really good on my Crate BT50 combo used for home-practicing.

BTW, Had Roto Jazz 77s on both basses. I just can't get on with the high tension of these strings. |
