TI super alloy IN 344 : difference with TI jazz round JR 344

Sign in to disble this ad
who plays on infeld superalloy ? is it pure nickel/nickel steel - like sounding ? the difference with the TI Jazz round ?

are they as above as I've read on threads ?

can you still have a good slap sound with super alloy , without the harshness of mostly all stainless steel

I would put them on a Fender JB 74/75 - ash body mapleneck & fretboard

JR344 are extremely light gauges, round core and pure nickel.
IN344 are medium gauges, hexcore and nickel plated.
So they are quite different in every way.

The IN344 are more of a standard bass string while the JR344 are really special, too smooth for me but beautifull sounding. The IN344 sound great too but more as a standard bass string. The IN have a little vintage voice with nice mids. The highs are gentle.

I can' t adapt my playing to the loose JR344 but I know some players use the jr364 (a bit bigger) on their '34 scale bass and have good results.

thanks for the answer

so I understand that TI JR would sound like pure nickel from fender bout with a loosier feel

and infeld like DR nickel lo rider or sadowsky new blue label ?

I 've read in through talkbass's threads that TI are the best in class strings : do U have experience on "better" strings on the high end corner?

You can't really compare the JR344 to a Fender. They have a much warmer and organic sound but still with abundant high end. They are lower tension. I haven't tried the Infeld though.

I have many years of experience with the T.I. JF 344 flatwounds. You can't really compare them with other brands of flatwounds either. I did compare my Fender P with JF344s against a student's P bass with Sadowsky flatwounds. The Sadowsky's were nice strings to play on and sounded pretty good. Sort of like a lot of other flatwounds I've tried. The Thomastic JF344s on my bass were warmer, but still with present mids and highs and more balanced from string to string. They just plain sounded much better to me. They are high end strings for sure and I think worth the extra cost.

I have a friend who plays a lot of gigs and he uses only JR344s. He likes the roundwound sound and feel. I prefer the flatwound sound and feel.

there is a drawback for TI JR : in europe , and moreover in France , it is a pain in the ass to find JR 344

even on the website lordofthestrings , they were unable to deliver me , even they told they were in stock.
they finally gave my money back !

Try "saitenkatolog" from Germany. They deliver to the UK, and are usually less expensive than any UK retailer? I guess the same would apply to France.

TI SA's are my favorite round. Great body and while retaining the cut associated with rounds. Less 'zingy' than say rotosound Swingbass but - the don't lose much while sesttling in where many rounds seemingly go dead in a couple of weeks. The TI's settle in and stay live sounding for ages...

TI JR's were too light for me. it complicated my setup work and when I finally got the setup dialed in, I found that I was going to have to really change up my picking hand approach - I pulled 'em off and went back to SA's without a look back ...
