TI Superalloy snapped within a week

Sign in to disble this ad
I just shelled out $50 for a set of TI Superalloy's and I broke the A string within a week at the first gig with them on. I'm not particularly hard on my strings either. I usually play strings til they're too dead sounding for my likes. I had a set on my L-2000 for about a year. Anyone else found that the Superalloy's snapped quickly? They we're on my Jass with a Badass II bridge if that makes any difference.

I've been using them on a jazz bass with no problem. Also, I paid $29 for a 4 string set.

Where did the string snap? Did you cut them at all? Did you wrap the string around the post by hand before tightening up to pitch?

There are a lot of variables that can make a string snap, and qyite a few of them have nothing to do with the quality of the string.

Contact TI for a replacement. They are very good about that.

You live in the States though. We pay a lot for any gear down here unfortunately.

I cu the E and A strings but it was the D that snapped. Yep, I wound them by hand first. It snapped at the bridge though. Also, I found it weird that the G string was only just long enough for my bass considering they were 34" scale and I'm playing a Fender Jazz. I couldn't even get one full wind out of it!

That's really good to hear cause I loved the sound of them even before they were worn in. Should I talk to TI in the US or the distributors here in New Zealand? Joe

The G string should be plenty long enough for your jazz bass. When I had an issue, I contacted a distributor here in the US. Since TI is not a US company, you probably should contact your local distributor. TI customer service is great from my experience.

You state in your first post that it was the A string that snapped.

And, by winding it by hand, you twisted the string. This is probably why the string snapped. You should never wrap it around the post by hand before tightening with the tuning peg. Twisting causes all kinds of intonation/strange overtone issues. And, it also helps contribute to snapped strings.

Ah,hold on. I think I might have go the wrong idea. I didn't wind it by hand in a way that would twist the string. I twisted the end around the machine head a couple of times before tightening it fully but not how you think.
