Tirbute L2000 w/ flats?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone, Ive been thinking of throwing some flats on my L2000 but I havent really gotten a chance to hear how it will sound in person. I was thinking of getting some TI jazz flats but I doubt the GC in Manhattan will have them in stock. If not Ill probably get GHS precision flats. Have any of you tried flats on your L2K's? How does it match with the MFDs?
thanks

I've got TI Flats on my L-2000 Tribute. They sound pretty good. Other flats that I've used and liked are the D'Addario Chromes and GHS Brite Flats.

I don't know about your tribute, but I have Chromes on my USA L-2000 and I L-O-V-E it. Go for it- you'll be a happy camper.

Chromes FTW!

Tried the bass with lo-riders and the strings they came with....didn't like them...sounds beyond awesome now.

Last week I put on Chromes on my L2000 Tribute, and I absolutely love it. I'm actually thinking about sticking chromes forever from now on. Great fundamental, I like the higher tension, very comfortable to play, and takes off the high end sizzle that I usually take out anyway via eq.

i used to use a g&l tribute l2000 with ti jazz flatwounds, it was my main bass for a long while back then. it had excellent live cutting tone, not harsh at all in the top end, very warm, and smooooth, like a bass should be. i found with rounds, the l2000 was too harsh for my styles of music, rock/blues, funk/jazz, progressive, etc etc. if i was on a budget and couldn't afford to buy other bass's, id be perfectly happy right now playing that old l2000 i had. good luck man.

Not on my L2000, but on my P-bass I tried a few different sets & Daddario Chromes 40-90's were the BEST by far that I tried & were in fact the ONLY flats I've been impressed with. Responsive, able to slap, & sound good doing old school jazz too. Must try some on the L2K soon. Only got the L2K recently & have round DR's on it.

I suppose these type of threads are pointless as everyone has their own idea of a good tone. Strings, like basses themselves are a very personal choice.

ok, so yesterday I got some Chromes and I havent stopped playing since (almost literally). These strings are exactly what I was looking for. The feel is nice and smooth and Im loving the tension. As far as the sound, I am very pleased. The flats take off some of the zing from the high end (which can be quite harsh on this bass if you ask me). Now my bass is thumping out the tone that I want. What amazed me most is that I could still slap on these strings! I was expecting the slap sound to be dull and and crappy from what I'd heard about flats but these strings sound awesome. Although the slap tone is very different from that with rounds, it's sick, a little more compressed and almost an up-rightish clunk. I have a few settings on the controls that are my favorites and they sound great with the flats as well. I'm loving these strings, they have given me an entirely different view of this bass.

what scale length Chromes?

I bought a set of 5 string Super Long Chromes to put on my 55-02, (35" scale) it has DR Sunbeam Nickels. But I decided I want to use the Chromes on my G&L US L2500 instead, it now has fairly new D'Ad XL170's, they are nice nickels too. So I'm waiting for those to wear out so I can use the Chromes on the L2500. Are the Super Longs strung thru body of my L2500 gonna be too long?
