Trying DR Hi Beams on My G&L L2000

Hey Guys,
Trying out some Hi Beams on my G&L. I've never really used DR's before and though why not. I've been a devout Rotosound user for years. The first thing I noticed was that they are slightly smoother and a bit more flexible. They certainly don't have the Roto "gank or twank" to them but still good mid content. More to come...

pretty similar experience to you,i use hi beams on my sb-2, cause sometimes i need a smooth finger style sound that could be characterized as piano like or jazzy when i'm not totally overdriven or distorted

They are a nice set of strings but maybe a bit too polite? Does that make sense? I'll certainly keep them on for awhile and see what happens. They stay in tune very well.

I made the switch from Rotosounds to HiBeams a few years ago and wont look back. They are smoother on the fingers and last a long time (IMO)

They are definitely not as gnarly and obnoxious as Rotosounds. If that's what you like, there is no substitute for Roto's! DR's will last 3 times as long though!

So after a week or so...
These are nice strings. They stay in tune very well. I like the feel of the tension, very flexible. They are in deed smoother than my Rotos but again much more "polite". Rotos get such a bad rap for eating up frets and I have seen first hand them marring or scratching frets but that ganky tone is definitely part of sound. I wonder if anyone has done a fret wear comparison between SS strings? But anyway I would recommend these strings just on feel alone I think or for someone who is on the fence about trying stainless steel strings. Good stuff. I'm still not sure if they warrant the more expensive price but I'll let you know how they fair in month or so...

Hey Guys,
So I really liked the feel of the DR's but I didn't like the tone I was getting. they just seemed too polite? So I put a new set of Rotosounds on my L2K and took the DR's off and put them on my new Fender AV 62 Jazz Bass. Now that is a nice combination and they are still quite bright. Thought I would let you know,
Happy New Year

I recently switched from ProSteels to Hi-Beams. I like them. But I think maybe I'll try some Lo-Beams when I take my SR505 into the shop to get the intonation set up properly. Maybe they'll allow me to get the action lower than it is now. Plus, I hear that they are a bit more middy and less scooped, which would suit me fine.

That's funny I have a brand new set of Pro Steels to try out on my Jazz!
