Trying labella deep talkin rounds

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been an avid fan od dr strings for a long long time.

I used hibeams exclusively for a long long time, and recently whenever I get the chance I string up with fat beams. i lvoe the strings.

I really have no reason to change, but I was able to order some strings at cost so I ordered 3 sets of labella deep talkin rounds. I've heard clips on basstasters, for whatever that's worth when it comes to strings

Anyway, I'm gonna be trying them out and hopefully I'll be able to post somewhat of a review soon.

Anybody here use both dr's and the labellas?

I'm cookoo for hi beams, other than the low B, which never seems to sound great. The fat beam B is better but still not great. For 4 string, I just use hi beams or fat beams and they are always perfect.

I also really like LaBella hard rockin steels, but the taperwound B and E sound a little louder, fatter, and feel better than the others, so its not a very balanced set. I've been wanting to try out some other Labella sets.

I actually have 4 hi beams and a HRS B on my 55-94 right now, and its pretty rad. The B sounds a little different than the others, but it works ...

So I'm interested to hear how you like the deep talkins ...

Have you tried Ken Smith Taper Core steel rounds? AKA Ken Smith Customs, I think. The BEAD strings are tapered.

I have, I thought they were OK. Didn't have that down and dirty growl of the hard rockin steels E&B though. I've been thinking of trying LaBella supersteps or some SR-2000s.

My .02

I just tried the Deep Talkin Rounds on my Sadowsky Fretless 5 and was disappointed...they seem to have a lighter tension almost to point of feelin like rubber bands (of course that's an exaggeration). The Hard Rockin Steels are just killin on my Status and the tension is perfect for finger style or slap. I had just went thru a box of Sadowsky SS Rounds on the Sad and thought they were good but just wanted to experiment...guess you just have to stick with what works, once you find it. I'm tempted to retry Roto Swingbass but I'm thinking they can't be the same as I remember...and I'm tempted to try the DR Lo Riders (some TBer's recommend them for fretless although I'm worried about the B) since I went thru a period with High Beams where I thought they were the cats meow.
