It is, but you'll probably hate it. Even if your strings have 50 lbs of tension at EADG, they'll only have about 25 lbs of tension at BEAD. It will feel like you're playing wet noodles, there will be ungodly amounts of fret buzz, and it wont sound all that great.

You're better off getting a 5-string bass or tuning BEAD all the time, since most G-string notes can be played on the D-string.

^Yes.
The neck curvature and action will change a lot and in the least helpful way when halving or doubling the tension. Be kind to your bass neck. Could always tune in fifths BbFCG for more range than a 5 string!

I tried it... I hated it. The fretbuzz and lack of tension is terrifying.

Yes it's possible... on a 5 string.

On a four string, it's definitely possible, but it doesn't sound very good. You'll be doing a lot of adjustments as well.

Actually that is a matter of taste. The looseness and fret buzz sound kinda cool.

I like a little clicky-clacky here and there as well, but I was actually referring to a tonal change. An A-string dropped down to E will lack most of the clarity that you get from the open E-string, so if you like the way your strings sound under normal tension, you'll very likely hate how they sound when the tension his halved.

With the same setup? Yeah I don't think so. Lowest I've gone is from E std. to drop C# and that was already way pushing it.
If you're just doing BEAD/EADG then I suggest a 5 since neither are really an "alternate" tuning.

I even find the DGCF tuning too loose with standard gauge (45 - 100) strings.

For a good number of reasons it's not such a good idea, but . . . .

If you had to;

.118 - E/53.2-B/29.8
.090 - A/55.9-E/31.4
.067 - D/56.2-A/31.5
.049 - G/54.6-D/30.7
