Tuning

I posted a similar question a few years ago but thought i would get some perspectives on this issue a few years later. I have a 5-string bass i want to restring it to EADGB instead of BEADG like a standard 5-string. i'm way too used to my bottom string being "E". i have tried the BEADG way, it throws me off. I believe you can't just take a B string and tune it up to an E and an E string and tune it up to an A, and so forth. Any thoughts or advise and do any bass players really do this? My initial thought is, hey keep practicing on the 5-string and eventually i'll become comfortable with it. thanks, John

Up to you, really. People tune EADGC all the time, so it's not uncommon to do that.

I personally love having a B string, but if you don't, buy a 6-string set and ignore the B-string. Or you can buy a 4-string set and buy the C-string individually. Or you can buy a Circle K 5-string set with the lowest string as your favorite E-string gauge.

I used to tune this way. Buy a 4 string set and add a .025 roundwound single string for the top B / C.
