tuning down & string choice

Sign in to disble this ad
I play metal, and sometimes tune down to drop b, but the problem is when im in that low of a tuning, and im trying to play on the bottom of the fretboard on my lowest string i get that sh*tty vibration sound of the string hitting the fret above the one im trying to play. Ive heard using heavier strings can solve this. Is it true? If it is, what size strings should I use?

If you change tunings on the same bass you are going to have to live with your bass not being perfect at each tuning.

Heavier strings will indeed help you, but you need to provide more information - what tunings are you trying to hit beyond drop B?

If you're playing a 4 string why not just restring with the bottom 4 strings of a 5 string set?

Tune BEAD and you'll be all set.
