Tuning/Strings for an Ibanez BTB

Sign in to disble this ad
I have been playing bass for about 12 years. And my main instrument is a Fender Precision Bass Lyte. It is standard 34" scale.

I have recently been playing with lower tunings. And have decided that I want a longer scale neck. I found the Ibanez BTB. Here is a picture of it i(f I can remember how to display pics):

(If that didn't work I'll try again.)

Any way, I want to play at C# standard tuning and occasionally, drop B.

My question is can anyone recommend a set of strings that will have a decent amount of tension at this tuning/scale length?

Thanks,
Dan

Oh yeah, I failed to mention that the BTB is 35" scale (like a 5 string).

Look for a set or pick up singles that are in this general vicinity;

C - .130 @ 35.5 lbs
G - .085 @ 35.6 lbs (F - .090 @ 37 lbs)
C - .065 @ 37.6 lbs (A# - .075 @ 38 lbs)
F - .050 @ 38.9 lbs (D# - .055 @ 41 lbs)
A# - .040 (G# - .045)

Yeah that crosed my mind, but then I started to think about Ricks, the have that massive body, skiny neck look and I've always thought they were cool.

Regarding me playing a 5 string, I just dont think I want to go that route right now. I'm doing recording at home, and the guitar that I am playing along-side is 24 3/4" scale and even with the massive strings I have I cant get it sounding tight any lower than C# standard or drop B. B standard or drop A is just way to loose, so I dont know how well my guitar would get along with a 5 string if we want to share the same open strings.

Wait... What model is that? The lower-end BTB's have a "34 scale IIRC. Make sure that the one you're gunning for is a "35!
