Gauge is up to preference. But considering your tuning I would personally go like this:

160 120 95 70 50

I usually buy singles on the net. Juststrings.com seems to be the most into singles.

Here's the link to my string tension/scale length/tuning spreadsheet, to be used in conjunction with unit weights from D'Addario's string tension chart from their site - it'll get you in the ballpark for any brands' strings with the same construction.

The spreadsheet's also handy for knowing the frequencies of all note fundamentals in ERB bass tunings.

Go to D'addario's site and download their publication on string tension. Get the string tension for the set that you would normally use at standard tune. Then pick the individual string gauges that gives you comparable tension at the tuning you specify. Buy singles at just strings. Even thought the tension will be for say D'Addario XL nickels, the answers you get should carry over to other brands.

Unless you're weighing strings, you don't. I'm in the same spot. And the D'Addario sheet only goes to .145. (Works fine for a G at "35, I must say!)

They really screwed up their site. The tension document they have is not like the old one. Here ya go. Go to page 10 for bass strings.
