I use a set of DR Hi-Beams that are about a year old now, as my main set of strings for my Ken Lawrence. They still sound amazing. Better than new (imo). I'm not into that bright, zingy tone. I like the solid meaty groovy tone I get from the aged strings

I think if you truely want bright tone then you'll have to change the strings, as to which ones sound bright the longest I'll have to pass

i'd put my vote on a set of DR high beams,

when i bought my my fretless from Paul Turner (now playing with Jamiroquai) he said he had the same set of DRs on it for like 9 months, they still sounded pretty good but i was glad to get a new set of strings on it though, just not my thing really

but if i had to do it personally it would be with DR high beams, as long you i wipe them down after playing i think they will last.

on a side note one of the best sounding basses i have played was a 6 string fretless WAL MK III which had strings that where like 3-4 years old, they where originally roundwounds but where ground down all along where the string touched the fingerboard, from teh continious hours of playing. it sounded amazing!!!
