Uber strings.... What are the Brightest?

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay. I currently use Fender Stainless 7350s. Theyre pretty bright, but they dont cut through as much as i'd like. i play a 2005 Fender jazz with a BAII bridge.

I also would like to use light gauge strings too.
Im thinking of using some Rotosound 66 45-100s or maybe something else... i dunno, all ive ever used were fender stainless 7350s.

could you people help me please?

blue steels. composition-wise, anything that's pure stainless steel and not nickel or nickel-plated is going to be the brightest. what's best out of all the stainless steel strings is up to you.... trial and error time!

i use the rotosound 45-100 stainless steels, and i love their tone. more growly and punchy than bright, i'd say, but..... try them!

DR Hi Beams. They start out ridiculously bright, and last forever. Many people here dig Hi Beams when they've hit the 2 month mark. That's like a "sweetspot." I don't think you can go wrong with ANY DR string. They always sound awesome and have stupidly long life. Hi Beams get better with age.

I would avoid Blue Steels like the plague. They start out really bright, but then a week later become the muddiest strings in the world. Terrible strings.

SIT Stainless Rock Brights are far brighter than most any other string I've used. I had a set on one of my basses & they were so zinging, that I had to relearn how to play that bass,,, just to avoid the excessive finger transfer. Keep in mind, I dont have that problem w/ any of my other basses, or strings. so.... I just kept the SIT's on, waiting for them to mellow... a year later, they never did. They just stopped intonating properly.

I've settled on SS DR Hi Beams, & they're substantially mellower than the SIT SS Rock Brights. But, I'd back up other things Dincrest said about the DR's.

Never bothered w/ Dean Markley's so, I cant help you there.

I've found DM Blue Steels to be quite bright, D'addario XL ProSteels as well.

Is that slapping or fingerstyle?

I'd totally agree with this.

I'd also add that I've always noticed a pretty blatant inconsistency of tone across strings with Blue Steels, whereas with other brands (Like the DR's) the tones just "flow" between the G all the down to the B (if any of that makes ANY sense at all. lol)

Actually it's almost all fingered doublestops (with some fingernail hits) and an occational pop. No picks. The phasey guitard part is actually a piccolo bass.

yeah, uhmmm.....

what?

i second the DRs, actually. they rock. i've used blue steels once, and they were bright... but i like the way a string deadens. my faves for this are the rotos. they're just.... growly.

but DR makes a great string.

I dont see why so many ppl are complaining about the bluesteels, ive had them for a month and they still sound new. I jammed with my band yesterday only and they even complimented my tone, it just cuts through the guitars like butter without sounding too raspy

I found prosteels to be really high tension - I have used 45, 65, 85, 105 for about 15 years but found these to be higher than what I would consider comfortable
