Ugh i broke 2 strings in less than 5months. is it the string's problem?

I was using kurt mangan nickel strings till i switched over to dean markley blue steels, after like 3months my d string broke. so i swooped the d string to the kurt mangan's. then just now while i was playin my e string broke! now i have 2 strings of 2 different brands on my bass -_-;

anyways i play almost everyday for several hours and i pluck exlusively on the bridge HARD, could this be the reason?

More than likely, yes.

Lighten your attack, you'll thank yourself later, and so will your wallet.

ic, but damn i like the gritty sound.

anyways i find that when using the bluesteels when i anchor my thumb on the string sometimes i might push it a tad too hard and it'll touch the pickup and there'll be an annoying click sound. it happens when i slap the e string too hard too. it doesnt occur on other strings. could this be due to the lower tension of the string?

i was thinkin about dr hibeams(low tension) but im wondering if it'd cause me any problem

it happen to me once.. in the beginning, what's your bass?

cause my first bass was a Esp-b-105, not a cheap but not an awesome bass.. it was Ok...
i broke 2 strings and a friend of mine make me realise that my bridge was to sharp on the strings.. the contact between the strings and the bridge was not full enough, i you not what i mean...

i suggest to you to go to a good luthier and he will tell you, cause nobody here with no pics and without seeing the bass can find the real solution, but maybe it's that..

IMO, the first reason to lighten up your playing is more for yours hands and arms than for the strings, i personnaly think a good bass should take it allright.. i think

You just answered your own question. Strings are not indestructable. I break strings pretty often as well, but I know full well it's because I play really hard. You just have to figure out which is more important to you: the tone or the money that you'll spend on strings.

Also, if you break strings very often, it's probably a good idea to keep an extra set with you at all times.

Yes that might be the reason but that is unavoidable. What about slap?? You can't avoid slapping. Without enough punch slap isn't slap. All strings I broke I broke while slapping/popping except for maybe once when playing fingerstyle.
