Unraveleing strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
I replaced the strings on my 5string about a month ago and just noticed they seem to be unraveling near the bridge...

note the 5th string before the saddle goes from big and thick to skinny and then the other strings over the saddle seem to be coming apart.

is this nothing or should I be concerned?

thanks, but the other end has blue cloth on it and the straight wire that goes into the tuner... this is the only end with the little round thingy to hold it on the bridge.

No worries, this is quite normal for flats that have to make a slight angle.

What you see is totally normal.

The 5th string going from thick to skinny is meant to be that way.

A string like that is called tapered, some manufacturers do strings like that, it's supposed to help with intonation on large diameter strings.

The strings coming appart at the bridge is normal too, with flats the wraps lay flat against each other with almost no space it's normal to see them separating a little when there is a break angle in the string, like at the bridge saddle.

Nothing to worry about. If it was on the other side of the saddle it may be a problem.
